It is hard to describe the emotional response towards the delicately austere sculpture of Mariėtte van der Ven. Powerful, intimate and complex, the figures are a monument to the diverse variety of human forms and emotions. Each work is scaled down from life size and cloaked with intricately constructed yet mysterious attire. Mariette develops a complex psychology delving into and exploring the range of the often darker side of the human psyche. The work demands intimate introspection with a poignant presence that persists.
Mariėtte van der Ven lives and works in Nieuwendijk, The Netherlands. This will be her first solo exhibition in New York. Mariėtte has had numerous gallery and museum exhibitions throughout The Netherlands, Great Britain, France, Italy and Japan.
