A series of new paintings by Asad Faulwell will be on view at Kravets Wehby Gallery in his solo exhibition Chimera. The Chimera is a legendary fire-breathing creature, part lion, goat, and snake, whose form may change according to raconteur. 

Asad Faulwell’s sumptuous new paintings are a collision of magic and politics. The extravagant vignettes contain ancient mythology and its omnipresent cultural effect. Minuscule details leave a trail of clues throughout the paintings as to their storied and bloodied histories. The contorted figures represent the archetype of Iranian, Kings, Queens, and Magi­— once considered supernatural. Asad’s complex relationship with identity is reflected in the intricacies of his visual story telling.

Asad Faulwell (b. 1982, Caldwell, ID) is an Iranian American artist who currently lives and works in Los Angeles. His work is in the collections of the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and the Rubell Museum.
