The Kravets Wehby Gallery is pleased to announce Anna Berghuis' debut solo exhibition, Dancing With A Former Self. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, February 1, 6-8PM. In this body of work, Anna speculates hyperconnectivity and the innate desire to perceive and be perceived. The exhibition reflects a time where we are always plugged in but rarely fully present. Concealment and disruption in our relationships, both in person and online, influence her image-making process.

Distortion is an essential aspect of Anna's practice. In her intentionally obscured paintings, she doubles, layers, and mirrors figures that are replicas of ourselves or others. To contort further, Anna blurs, scrapes, and even transfers imagery onto her compositions through monoprinting. Highly choreographed ghostly figures stretch across canvases towards a fate unknown.

Anna Berghuis (b. 1996) is from Baltimore, MD and currently lives and works in New York, NY. She received her AB in Art History and Studio Arts from Princeton University. She recently completed residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and at the Long Meadow Art Residency in the Berkshires.
