Assata Mason’s first solo exhibition, Glower, will open at Kravets Wehby Gallery on Saturday, March 19, 2022. In her debut solo show, Mason, fixes the viewer in place with hyper intense gazes and ethereal worldscapes. By welding opposing elements together, she creates a grotesque harmony that stuns. Using her own body as a mold, she infuses a power and dynamism into her figures that allows them to transcend reality. Seductive, assertive auras pulse beneath blended, technicolored skin. Masonbecomes an architect, building complex unrealities to escape into while keeping the view at bay with glowering stares, trapping them in between her world and theirs.

Assata Mason lives and works in Chicago as a BFA candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Next year, she will attend the Ruskin Art School at the University of Oxford, England.
