Jade Thacker's exhibition of new paintings opens at Kravets Wehby Gallery on Thursday, Octoberr 21st. In this body of work each figure emerges from an abyss as an extreme version of self. Their gazes fixated, while layers of vibrancy obstruct reality. Calculated introversion is utilized by the figures so that they only belong to themselves. Thacker wields these figures like a mirror, holding them up for self-reflection, and in turn, deciphering her lived experiences.
A combination of observation and memory, her multi layered, vibrant yet delicate surfaces are generous while remaining mysterious. Revealing one thing, only to hide another, she presents a lyrical push and pull between privacy and openness. Their duality lures you in for a closer, more intimate look, while subverting your attention.
Jade Thacker (b. 1991) received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Currently, she lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. This will be her second solo exhibition at the Kravets Wehby Gallery.
