March 29 - April 28, 2018

Kravets Wehby Gallery is pleased to announce Fly Girl Fly, an exhibition of new work by Jamea Richmond-Edwards, opening Thursday, March 29, and running through April 28, 2018. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, March 29 from 6 - 8 pm.

Jamea Richmond-Edwards' new work is a mixture of cut paper collage, paint, and ink on canvas. Her irreverent and intense paintings focus on the "booster." This exhibition explores the complex relationship between black women and luxury clothing. Richmond-Edwards' stoic portraits, combined with vibrantly colored clothes, examine society's narrow parameters of respectability.

Jamea Richmond-Edwards is originally from Detroit, MI and currently lives and works in Washington, D.C. Her work was recently included in Say It Loud: Art, History, Rebellion at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. This will be her first solo exhibition at the gallery.
