Sejiro Avoseh’s first solo exhibition in New York City will be on view at Kravets Wehby Gallery on May 11, 2023, with an opening reception for the artist on Thursday, May 18th, 6-8PM. His tumultuous, expressive, lovingly rendered paintings often invoke beauty from the chaos. The work is an abstracted representation of his transitory experience.
“My rage with being a citizen oppressed in my home country of Nigeria, and after migrating to the country that colonized my home made me wonder where I can really call home. The fact that I feel like an alien in these two spaces has placed me in state of limbo.”
Sejiro Avoseh was born in Lagos, Nigeria and currently lives and works in Canterbury, England. After extensively exhibiting in Nigeria, he received his MFA from UCA Canterbury. His work is currently on view at the Green Family Art Foundation in Dallas, TX. He recently completed a residency at The Cabin LA. His work has been exhibited internationally in Dubai, Paris, and numerous exhibitions in both Nigeria and South Africa.
