World Eater
Stan Narten
May 19 – June 25, 2016

The Kravets Wehby Gallery is pleased to announce World Eater, a new exhibition of paintings by Stan Narten opening on Thursday May 19th and running through June 25th, 2016.
Stan Narten’s vibrant, large-scale oil paintings draw on distinct visual idiom, with a contemporary shift in subject matter. His paintings create an epic visual manifestation of chaos and decay, highly influenced by classical still life and portraiture. In these new works, imagery is derived from sci‐fi, fantasy, and heavy metal illustration to create a hyper-real, yet abstract pictorial amalgamation.
Narten ‘digests’ the images, breaking down the space of the reference material and purging it back onto the canvas in a confusion of impressions that approaches abstraction yet maintains the weight of forms in space. Narten uses a thoughtful and extended process of development to generate his compositions. Forms are carried through to the canvas with intertwined discord and pattern, intensified colors, multiplied textures, and heightened vibrancy. The sources are transmogrified into a unique re-vision of reference and form.
The paintings embrace destruction and creation simultaneously, embodying the push-pull relationship between order and chaos, and mirroring the discordant ideal that the appearance of order and disorder are merely illusions imposed on reality by the mind.
This will be Stan Narten’s fourth solo show at Kravets Wehby Gallery. A catalogue will be available.
