Dethroned, Stoned & Boned

Wendell Gladstone

April 7 — May 14, 2016

The Kravets Wehby Gallery is pleased to announce Dethroned, Stoned & Boned, a new exhibition of paintings by Wendell Gladstone opening.

Gladstone’s most recent body of work focuses on hierarchical struggle as it chronicles various stages in a cycle of unrest, revolt, and exile. With a wide scope of influences that range from historical European satirical cartoons to Aztec stone carvings, his narratives are motley and frenetic, heightened by his intense use of color. His unique surfaces and compositions morph from abstraction to representation, from thick bas-relief to washy stains, tinted translucence to flat opacity, and from mosaic patterning to meandering line.  All things unruly and disparate are interwoven creating simultaneously turbulent and harmonic fables.
